Roses

Roses work for any occasion, any relationship and any budget. The colour is where the meaning lives and is the main consideration when sending roses.

What each rose colour means

Red is romantic love. It has meant this for centuries and it is the main choice for Valentine's Day in the UK.

Pink is the most versatile colour in the rose family. Soft blush means affection and warmth and works for almost any relationship. Deep pink means gratitude and admiration.

White means elegance, purity and to new beginnings. It is the most formal rose colour and a beautiful choice for weddings and sympathy.

Yellow means friendship and joy. Send yellow roses to a friend, a colleague or anyone who needs a little cheering up.

Peach roses relate to sincerity and warmth. Not a popular choice when it comes to flowers, but are quietly beautiful.

Orange is associated with enthusiasm, admiration and celebration. The colour for a moment of excitement.

Cream and ivory carry the elegance of white but warmer. Outstanding in mixed bouquets alongside blush and peach tones.

How long do roses last

Classic roses last seven to ten days with good care. Garden roses, the fuller more artisan  petalled variety, last five to seven days but are significantly more fancy.

The biggest factor in vase life is how recently the stems were cut. FlowerFix roses are grown to order and cut on the day your order is sent, which is why they consistently outlast roses bought from local florists. Supermarket Roses are usually a smaller hardy variant, meaning they maintain the same bloom from start to finish. They don't really bloom open as much.

How to care for roses

Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife the moment they arrive. Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Fill a clean vase with cool water and add the flower food sachet to promote nutrition.

Change the water and re-trim the stems every two to three days. This is the single most effective thing you can do to extend vase life beyond a week.

Keep roses away from direct sunlight, radiators and fruit.

Are roses safe for cats and dogs

Yes. All rose varieties are non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Please consider the thorns on the stems. If your pet is a known chewer, trim the thorns before arranging.

This is why roses feature prominently in every FlowerFix pet safe bouquet and a great choice with households with pets.

When to send roses

Red roses for romantic occasions. Soft pink roses for warmth, affection or a birthday. Yellow roses for a friend or for lifting spirits. Peach roses or cream roses for a thank you gift. White roses for a wedding or sympathy. Orange roses for a celebration or achievement.

Roses are available year-round and are always on the FlowerFix menu. Quality varies by season but our expert florist manually checks every rose for imperfections and bruises to make sure you always receive the best cut roses.
