May, June & July Flowers: What's Actually in Season Right Now

Right. We need to talk about the calendar.

Because there is a very specific three-month window each year when the UK flower scene goes completely unhinged in the best possible way. May, June, and July are when everything arrives at once. The flowers that spent all winter being unavailable, expensive, or disappointingly imported finally show up in their best selves, grown properly, smelling as they should, lasting longer than three days.

Here is what is actually in season right now and why you should be extremely annoyed at yourself if you let any of it pass without ordering.

Peonies. Obviously.

We are not going to pretend we are neutral on this one.

Peonies are available in the UK for approximately six weeks a year. Six. That is it. They arrive in late April, peak in May and June, and they are gone by early July without so much as a farewell. Then it is eleven months of waiting, and you will spend the entire time telling yourself you should have ordered more when you had the chance.

They arrive in tight bud and bloom over three to four days. They smell extraordinary.Its a must have Instagram and Pinterest photo moment, because they have no bad sides.

Roses, but make it personal

Roses are available year-round, which is exactly why people stop paying attention to them. Mistake. Because summer roses are different.

Right now we have Naomi Red Roses for the romantics, Pearl Avalanche Roses for the blush obsessives, White Avalanche Roses for the minimalists, Quicksand Roses for the neutral interior crowd, Dorchester Roses for the quietly luxurious, and Porcelina Spray Roses for people who want something a little different but cannot quite articulate why.

Lisianthus: the flower that makes people think you spent more than you did

Lisianthus peaks in summer and it is the best kept secret in floristry. If you put lisianthus in a vase and do not tell anyone what it is, at least two people will ask if those are peonies. One will ask if they are roses. They are neither. What's great about them is they last significantly longer so your bang for the buck is unmatched.

We have them in white, apricot, and purple. The apricot is our favourite just FYI.

Baby's breath: the comeback kid

Baby's breath gets its peak colour and density in early summer, which is also when demand for it goes absolutely vertical because every wedding in the UK appears to have discovered it at approximately the same time. We love it.

Summer baby's breath is fuller, more branching and more cloud-like. It also dries beautifully if you leave it in its vase, which means what you order today could still be on your shelf in November. The return on investment is worthwhile.

Available in white, pink and purple, rainbow, pink and white, and blue and white. The rainbow is your midlife crises moment and the white is always right.

Tulips: technically on their way out, but we are not ready to let go

Tulips peak in April and May, which means by June they are beginning to bow out gracefully. But they are still here. They are still good, so if you've not had your tulips fix this year, you still have time for our Delicious Tulips.

Ranunculus: catch it if you can

Ranunculus is a May flower. Technically. In practice it starts appearing in March, peaks in April and May, and hangs around into early June if the season is kind. Which means right now, depending on when you are reading this, you might just catch them.

We have Pink Italian Ranunculus and White Italian Ranunculus. They are one of those flowers that looks significantly more expensive than it is, which is a quality we respect enormously here.

The honest summary

May, June, and July are the months when flowers cost the least and look the most. Peonies are here. Roses are at their best. Lisianthus is peaking. Baby's breath is thriving. Tulips are finishing their season with dignity. Ranunculus is still just about in in the mix.

There is genuinely no better time to order and we are not saying that because we sell flowers. We are saying that because we genuinely think you should have peonies in your house right now!
